A hot, hot summer! 💌

Hello, lovely reader!

I hope you and those you love are happy, safe, and well. I'm praying for God's peace and love to rest on the world, and on you, too, especially in these troubled times.

I’m happy to report that hubby is doing well at our Bulgarian house, though the kittens are being unintentionally very naughty when they play, plus now mum has pretty much left them, very clingy and in need of cuddles and affection. Which of course, he’s providing! All eleven kittens are back in our garden, and he reports that three more are coming in the house during the day but not sleeping with him at night. There are a LOT of kittens! The two tiny ones with a very feral mum I was concerned about are doing fine, and we were able to get contraceptive injections for the three other tamer mother cats who visit our garden, so phew, they won’t be getting pregnant again just yet.

Meanwhile, here in the UK, it’s hotter than Bulgaria, and our little badly-designed house with big west-facing windows is uncomfortably warm, even with the curtains drawn. Yesterday in the afternoon my thermometer showed the hottest it’s ever been in the bedroom - over almost 30C / 85F — and it’s still getting hotter! At least the bright sunshine coming in that window is useful for something — I have a small solar panel there charging my battery-powered fans and lights! As the forecast is for it to get even hotter over the next few days, I think I’ll switch out the small solar panel for a bigger one! Blocking more heat from coming into the house AND generating more solar power for fans to help me and Gremmie stay cool (he’s spent this morning sprawled right in front of a fan) has got to be a good thing!

I’m often amazed how badly things are set up here for hot weather. I needed to make a long trip to the hospital on Monday to see an orthopaedic surgeon about my arthritic joints, and the travel included over an hour on a bus. In 32C/ 90F heat, the bus had its heaters on pumping out more hot air! That was a very long hour! But good news on my joints. Only one, the most painful, is looking significantly bad on the X-rays and MRIs, there doesn’t seem to be any underlying issue like rheumatoid arthritis making so many joints hurt, and I’ve decided to hold off for now on having the partial knee replacement he recommends for the worst joint that’s bone-on-bone.

And on to the book news — no new releases or sales to report this week, but there are always more books to read… and write!

Pet news

Hubby claims he’s not allowing the Bulgarian kittens to develop any habits I won’t approve of, like getting on the kitchen table. Then he’s surprised when this photo makes me doubt that!

“Oh, but they’re not on the table,” he says. “They’re in the box, or on cushions.” Riiiiiight! That makes all the difference — not!

If you look closely, you’ll see six kittens in the photo. Another of CafeCat’s kittens has moved in, the ginger one near the front, and the ginger and white boy is who moved in while I was last there can be glimpsed as shadowy stripes right at the back.

Meanwhile, here in the UK, her favourite west-facing windowsill is too hot even for my beautiful blind calico girl Zina with the moonstone eyes, who’s normally a sun-lover. She’s abandoned the bed now and is stretched out on the kitchen floor, where it’s much cooler. I might just join her there!
